Charles Douglas Jackson

Charles Jackson, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather, cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 99 at the West Haven VA Medical Center. Born on September 19, 1926, in Carrollton, Mississippi, Charles lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service to others.

Charles, affectionately known as "Charlie," was a proud veteran, having served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy, joining at the age of 17 during World War II. He bravely manned the USS Levy, a Destroyer Escort, in the South Pacific, embodying the courage and resilience that would define his character throughout his life. After the war, Charlie returned home to build a life with purpose and family. He married the love of his life, Marion, with whom he shared 69 wonderful years of marriage.

Charlie worked as a Shipping Manager for Hudson Paper Company in Stamford for 31 years, where he was respected for his work ethic and leadership. Later, he became a Bus Operator for CT Transit, where his dedication to his community was further exemplified in his role as Union President for the Stamford Division. In his spare time, Charlie contributed greatly to the Entertainment Committee for the Piedmont Club in Darien, where he enjoyed organizing events and bringing people together.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marion; his son, Alan; his parents, Charles and Alma; his brothers, James and Homer Lee; and his sister, Ruby. Charlie's legacy continues through his daughter, Carol, and her husband, Mark; his five grandchildren, Darci (Dave), Dana, Jennifer (Jim), Shelby, and Stephanie (RJ); his 14 great-grandchildren; and his 7 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

He smiled with great joy upon hearing about all the adventures and accomplishments his grandchildren were involved with, and his eyes lit up with great joy each time he was told that a new grandchild would arrive.

Charlie will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, cherished always for his kindness, humor, and unwavering strength.

A special note of gratitude is extended to Marie, Charlie's devoted caregiver for the past decade, whose compassion and companionship enriched his later years.

Viewing will be held on September 5, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Lacerenza Macari Funeral Home, located at 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. The viewing will be immediately followed by the burial at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave, Stamford, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the Veterans Association of America, an organization close to his heart.
