Emilio Robert Attanasio "Bob", 93, of Stamford, CT, passed away on December 27, 2025. A lifelong resident of Stamford, he was the son of the late Mary (Gervasio) and Cosimo Attanasio. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Tony Attanasio, and his beloved son, Robert Joseph Attanasio. He earned his degree in Education from the University of Connecticut in 1954 and proudly served in the U.S. Military, Army, in 1955 and 1956.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Judy of 68 years, and children Cathy O'Hara (Jim), David Attanasio (Carol), Richard Attanasio, daughter-in-law Lea Attanasio, and his sister Kathy DeBartolo. His grandchildren were the delight of his life, Katelyn Schmitt (Matt), Kristen O'Hara, Robert Attanasio Jr. (Malia Bowman), Cory Attanasio, Christie Bohn (Matt), James O'Hara (Jennifer), Sarah Attanasio, Sean Attanasio, and Jack Attanasio, and his six cherished great-grandchildren James, Eliza, and Grace Bohn, Fiona and Maeve Schmitt, and Lynn O'Hara.
Bob's love of baseball and teaching followed him throughout each stage of his life. He played second base for UConn and for the U.S. Army at the bases he was assigned to. He played in a pro-collegiate league in Iowa and in the Stamford Twilight League. He was known for his defensive skills, his bunting ability and stealing bases, and would later excel at teaching those skills to his young players. Bob's career in education began at Cloonan Jr. High School before entering the Army where he became first in his class in Morse Code. On discharge, he returned to Stamford to teach at Stamford High School, later serving as guidance counselor and administrator.
Bob loved being an educator for 38 years. His baseball career also continued as he turned his love for teaching into coaching at Stamford High School, and Women's Professional Softball, winning the World Series with the CT Falcons. He became the New England Regional Director for Babe Ruth Baseball and organized baseball tournaments in Stamford. Bob supported all sports in the Stamford Community. He was an Honoree of the Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association which recognizes athletic achievements and the people who have made an impact on Stamford and the city's sports. Bob also served as President of the Association.
Bob's wonderful life was truly complete with the love he had for his family. In retirement, Bob and Judy took numerous cruises around the world including Alaska, Nova Scotia, Spain and Italy. His wife, Judy, their children, grandchildren and six great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. The love and support he always shared with them and the special times they spent together will live in their hearts forever.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 3rd at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at T2T.org in loving memory of Bob.
