Joseph T. Baccari

Joseph Thomas Baccari, "Joe","Joey B", age 78, a resident of Stamford, CT, passed away on Sunday August 23, 2026 at Stamford Hospital. Joseph was born on October 15, 1947 in NY, NY. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Lucy Vagnone Baccari and Joseph Daniel Baccari. Joseph attended Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and one year at Sullivan County Community College. He later proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from September 19,1967 to September 18, 1969.

While serving in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division, he was cited for his bravery and duty to his unit earning the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars.

Joe worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a Life Insurance Salesman and later joined the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier in Stamford, CT. While he enjoyed his work, he also was actively involved with the National Association of Letter Carriers Union Branch 60. He eventually rose to the position of President of Branch 60 from 2004 to 2012. Upon completion of almost 34 years of service with the Postal Service and President of Branch 60, Joseph retired in 2014. In 2022, The Branch 60 Leadership gave him the honorary title "President Emeritus".

Following his retirement, he found enjoyment working as a school crossing guard for the City of Stamford, a few hours a day talking to the children as they went to and from school each day and became a larger-than-life figure in their neighborhood.

Joe was an avid NY Yankee fan and a walking sports encyclopedia about baseball. He loved his NY Rangers. He was a member of the Settefratese Social Club of Stamford, as well as, the VFW of Darien, CT. Joe was a people person. He enjoyed meeting new people and especially trying various culinary establishments around Stamford. Everywhere he went he always enjoyed conversations with the patrons, the waiters, the valets, the servers, and the entire staff who became his friends and knew Joe for his kindness and thoughtful words.

Joe was a devoted and loving husband who never stopped caring for his wife Edna throughout his life. He remained steadfastly by her side throughout her illness. Even while she is living in a nursing home, he visited her at least twice a day, caring for her, tending to her needs, and making sure she was never alone. His unwavering love and devotion to his wife was a beautiful testament to the depth of their love and the life they shared together.

Joseph is survived by his spouse Edna Baccari, his son Joseph, wife Mette, sister Nancy Ann DiNardo and husband Stephen DiNardo, grandsons, Miles and Noah Baccari. Nephews Stephen (Taryn) and Nicholas (Kristen) DiNardo, seven great nephews and nieces and numerous cousins and family members.

Family and friends will be received on August 31, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford CT. 06902. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 1, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford Ct 06902. Burial will be at 1:00 PM at the CT State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown CT, 06457.
