Joseph Augustus Macari Jr. of Stamford, Connecticut passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025 at the age of 92, surrounded by his two sons, those who had cared for him for many years and his fondest grade school friend.
He is predeceased by his wife Ann in 2015. He is survived by his two sons Joseph (Kim) and Jerry (Cara) and three granddaughters, Colette, Romy and Jordan.
Joe was born in Stamford, Connecticut on August 16, 1933 to Frances and Joseph Macari. He attended Stamford High School and played offensive guard for the school's 1950 state football champions. He graduated from the University of Connecticut where he met Ann, eloping as he began service with the United States Air Force. Post Air Force, Joseph worked for General Electric until his retirement in 2000. Joseph remained ever dedicated to Ann and his sons and their families. After raising his family and living in other parts of the country, Joseph and Ann returned to live in Stamford in the early 1990's. He was an avid golfer and member of Shorehaven Golf Club and a dedicated fan of the UCONN Huskies men's basketball program (winning long shot bets on their championships in 2023 and 2024 and losing the same bet in 2025).
The family would like to thank two special people. Sylvia Nacinovic took great care of Joe and was a constant presence the last ten years. Art Morin, a former teammate on that Stamford High championship team, was his best and life-long friend and a steadfast presence in Joe's life.
While Joe will be dearly missed, we are grateful for his extraordinary impact on our lives and the lessons we will forever carry on how to lead a good life.
