Julia Cecilia Gloria Oliveira, age 87, of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home on June 9, 2025. Born on August 28, 1937, in Goa, India, the daughter of the late Joseph and Epiphania Ramos, Julia led a life defined by intellect, faith, and steadfast love for her family.
Growing up in Bombay, India, Julia attended St. Anne's High School. She then pursued her legal education with distinction, earning her law degree from Government Law College in Bombay and later, her Master of Laws (LLM) from New York University after immigrating to the United States. Julia worked for CT Legal Services when her children were young, and later in life worked for the City of Stamford as an IT specialist at Sacred Heart Elementary School. Julia met her beloved husband on Boxing Day, December 26, 1961 and they married on February 18, 1962. While raising their young family, Julia and Denis resided for a year in Bahrain before immigrating to the United States on Julia's birthday in 1969 and shortly thereafter moving to Stamford, CT. Julia navigated early hardships adjusting to a new life in a foreign place with grace and pride, eventually settling into their forever home in 1974. Many lifelong friends were made in these early years.
A devout Catholic, Julia's faith was a constant source of strength and guidance throughout her life. She was known for her quiet dignity, deep compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community, providing ministry, friendship and spiritual support to many community members of all faiths in need. In 1998, a profound highlight of her spiritual journey came when Julia had the privilege of meeting Pope John Paul II during a visit to the Vatican.
Julia is survived by her son, Joseph Oliveira, and his wife, Ava Albrecht; her daughter, Dionysia Oliveira; her two beloved granddaughters, Maria Oliveira and Teresa Oliveira; and many nieces and nephews. Her legacy endures through the love she shared and the values she instilled in those closest to her.
Julia is predeceased by her beloved husband, Denis Oliveira and by her beloved brothers Amiano Ramos, Anthony Ramos, Luis Ramos, and Derrick Ramos.
Family and friends will be received on June 19, 2025, from 4 to 7 pm at Lacerenza Macari Family Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. A funeral Mass will be held at the Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT, on June 20, 2025, at 10 am. Burial will immediately follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, 124 Rockrimmon Road, Stamford, CT.
Following the service, friends and family are warmly invited to gather at the home of Joseph Oliveira and Ava Albrecht to continue sharing memories and celebrating Julia's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Julia's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Catholic Charities of Fairfield County.
