It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Richard Caldwell Lutterman, who departed this life on August 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Surrounded by the love of his family, he left this world leaving behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and unwavering devotion.
Born on February 16, 1943, in Stamford, CT, Richard lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. He proudly served his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army National Guard, where he exemplified honor and discipline. Following his military service, he applied his exceptional talents as an aircraft engineer, contributing to innovations that took flight across the world.
A man of quiet strength and deep compassion, Richard was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, or share a warm smile. In recent years, he found joy in crafting beautiful wood pens, a hobby that became his way of expressing love and appreciation to family and friends. Each pen he made carried a piece of his heart-a lasting reminder of his generosity and care.
Above all, Richard was a devoted husband to his cherished wife of 61 years, Marjorie Rende Lutterman. Together, they built a life filled with grace, laughter, and enduring partnership. They retired to Florida where they spent time volunteering at a local theatre. He also spent many years volunteering as a sheriff in Indian River County, Florida. In 2017, they made South Carolina their forever home.
He was a proud father to three children: Kimberly Lutterman of Stamford, CT, Sherri Scott (Matthew) of Ridgeland, SC, and Laura Lageman (Jason) of Woodbury, CT. He adored his eight grandchildren, Christopher, Kendra, Dominic, Jake, Delaney, Emma, Brian and Kristin, and two great grandchildren, Easton and Landon, who brought immense joy and pride into his later years. His love and lessons will live on in their lives and hearts.
He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Mary Stamatel Lutterman, and is survived by his brother, Gary Lutterman, and sister, Patricia Lutterman Gilhooley.
A man of unwavering character, Richard was guided by his values-faith, family, and compassion for others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
