Valerie "Val" Flynn passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at the age of 88. A lifelong resident of Stamford, Val was born on November 3, 1937, to the late Jerry and Edith Gaetani.
As the oldest of three sisters, Marie Strazza (John) and June Gaetani, Val took on her role as big sister with patience. She was often known to be annoyed by their antics, but this never took away from her fierce protection of them. Some of her sisters' fondest memories with Val included getting lunch and praying the rosary with their grandmother, Maria.
Val enjoyed her work at Overseas Custom Maid Agency, Royal Typewriter, and Fidelity Bank, but where she truly flourished was in her many years of caring for children. She could often be found in the kitchen slicing up pound cake, making sure no child ever left her home hungry.
Val had a deep love for country music and a large CD collection, citing George Strait and Reba as some of her personal favorites. When she wasn't listening to country music or diligently completing word searches, she could be found playing card games, Bingo, and Rummikub with her many friends at Kingswood Commons. She never turned down a sweet treat, often keeping her kitchen stocked with Dolly Parton cheesecake, candy, and ice cream. She rarely took "no" for an answer when offering to share them with her grandchildren.
Val's greatest joy in life came in the form of her family. She was predeceased by her husband, John Flynn; their son, John Flynn Jr., whom she missed and loved dearly; and her two beloved sons-in-law, Tony and Ron.
Val is survived by her loving daughters, Sharon Flynn and Terri Cohn. Sharon was a devoted caretaker to her mother in her later years, and Val was immensely grateful to have her by her side, often saying, "I don't know what I'd do without her." Terri was her baby, and over the years Val was always her confidant, there to support her and watch a Lifetime movie during their visits.
Perhaps her most cherished part of life was the gift of becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother, known lovingly as "Gigi." Her granddaughter Jaime (Raymond) loved watching her daughter, Marisol, play with her Gigi, and Gigi loved spoiling her with toys whenever she could. Her granddaughter Jillian (Tanner) treasured their many visits together, their shared jokes, and Val's warm spirit. Her granddaughter Nikki loved their weekly grocery store runs and outings to Trip's together. Val's grandchildren, Michael and Gabrielle, were far away but always close in heart, and she looked forward to seeing them whenever they visited.
Valerie also leaves behind many extended family members and too many friends to count, all of whom will miss her warmth and kindness dearly.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 10am-12pm at Lacerenza Macari Funeral Home with a burial of ashes at St. John Cemetery 25 Camp Avenue Darien, CT to follow.

The family would like to thank the Bennett Cancer center and Pathwell Home Health.
